Cadillac is the closest I think, with 272hp. It appears the market reality is that the stereotypical four cylinder buyer isn't going to be enticed by 10% to 15% more power; they are more interested in luxury features than performance.

Perhaps BMW will offer an M PPK for the B48 this time around.
Giulia is at 280.
Jaguar has a 30t 4 pot at 296.

My 2013 335i 8AT with MPPK/MPE gets better gas mileage than my wife's 2016 228i 8AT. Best highway mileage for mine is 36; best highway mileage for hers is 32. Interesting since her car is lighter than mine and has 100 less HP (N26 engine vs N55 with MPPK).

I don't know how that can be, I would expect the 228i to have similar if not better aerodynamics. I routinely get 38mpg+ on my 328i. I had once even gotten 42mpg on a 360 mile roundtrip with my previous '12 328i when I was living in the midwest.

It was with me behind the wheel of her 228i on several long trips (over 300 miles one-way). Driving the speed limit on Interstates and other non-urban highways, mostly with cruise control. She usually gets better gas mileage driving her car locally than I do, only because her style is less aggressive. But we've never seen highway mileage north of 32.

Well something is off. Cd for both vehicles is 0.29 thought the 228i is smaller and therefore should have less actual drag with the same engine and transmission. Perhaps it is the trip computer (do you calc the MPG or just rely on that?), an alignment issue or she puts in low octane gas that the engine cannot run as efficiently.

IIRC the M development head once quoted the current Manual transmissions cannot handle the increasing torque numbers of the upcoming models. He did say that Tremec being the only manufacturer that currently makes manual transmission that can handle such torque numbers. I don't really think they will invest in new manual transmissions. Take a look at Ferrari, no manuals.

Eh, my M4 pushes 600 and I have had zero issues thus far. I can't believe that would be the only reason IMO

if a corvette zr-1 can come in a 7 speed manual, i'm guessing if bmw wanted to they could get a manual. just depends on how much its worth to them if a lot of people would really buy it to certify etc
