I was running MICHELIN Pilot Sport 4 in 225/40 R18 92Y * XL but switched to the older gen. MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport in 225/40 ZR18 92Y * XL.

The Super Sport have noticeably better dry grip, while the PS4 are better in the wet. I know the PS4S would be better, but they are not available with the BMW star marking for the M135i/M235i, which I want to keep for warranty reasons.

I've always found Conti's better than Michelins, the quality control seems to be better and they seem a bit more resilient. Definitely don't go for Bridgestones, but I'm guessing you already know that.

You need to understand two things:

1. The star marking has nothing to do with any warranty. If your dealer told you otherwise, he lied. It's purely a recommendation.

2. The PSS* was not made for the F40 M135 and the star on the tyre is therefore useless. You bought a 15 year old outdated tyre for the wrong reasons.

I am driving the new Hankook Ventus Evo in 235/35 19" and am pretty satisfied with its performance so far.

PS5s seem to be going great for me right now.
