F40 remap

Hey gents

Looking for some advice.
So my neighbour has a 2023 m135i and wants it remapping.

After looking into things, seems like it's ecu is locked?
Had a guy come out today to see if he could read the ecu which he claims he can and he can put the remap on.

Just looking for input on this.
I use bm3 for my car so don't know much about locked ecus but does this seem right or will it be locked and no way of remapping u less we send it to femto?

Many thanks
Phil

Yeah the F40 ecu is hardlocked. In order to put a flash on it, you need to take it out and send it to Femto in Finland. No other way.

BM3 has nothing to do with the hard lock of these latest ECUs (2021+ I think? ) It's not something BM3 or any other tuner can bypass if it's there, with, as mentioned, the exception of Femto who does only that: unlock the ECU so it's possible to flash a map later on, it's a different and independent process.

I'd like to see that guy successfully flash a 2023 car that hasn't had its ECU "femto'ed" though...

Yer I understand that, my point with BM3 is I didn't have any unlock to do or such, was quite a simple process of using a mobile..

This guy was adiment he could do it, and everyone else is saying impossible. He was using flash files from a bigger company so it's not even like he's writing the files himself and was telling me people are being ripped of paying over 1k to get it unlocked and mapped 🤣

No mate, we didn't even want to give him a chance as he wanted to take the ecu out. He was chatting bubbles so we told him to jog on

Physically open yes. There hasn't been a reason for that for a while.
but you still need to send the ECU in to unlock it.
