Keyfob not working, BCM dead?
Hi all,
Hoping a few knowledgeable owners might be able to help me out please! I bought a 2022 BMW M135i from salvage with a flood damaged engine (seized). All repaired and running now but right from the start, even when the car first arrived the keyfob hasn't worked to unlock / lock the doors (I only have one) and to start the car, I have to hold the keyfob up to the steering column. 99% sure that water didn't get inside the car, it's super clean under all of the front carpets etc. I changed the battery in the keyfob, checked all of the fuses in the main fuse box behind the glovebox and the fuses on the front of the BCM, which is mounted in the passenger side footwell (might be on the drivers side on LHD cars) etc but no joy. As it happens, the infotainment screen doesn't work either, might be linked but I'm not concerned about that right now. Anyway, hard to find info but found one thread on a page for keycoding etc, a guy that had exactly the same problems as me and it was also on a salvage car. He reported back that the solution was a new BCM from BMW with the VIN and new keys already coded in and that the old BCM was fried. Apparently this can happen when I high powered jump pack is used. I also read that it isn't possible to get a second hand unit because the used BCM would need to be coded to the car and it isn't possible to code these modules. It seems like I may need to go to BMW with the car and brace myself for a big bill but before I do thought it was wourth posting up the situation. Would love to hear from anyone who has any knowledge of this situation. Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance for any info! Last edited by PLBaker; 01-02-2026 at 11:53 AM..
