F40 handbrake button problem

Dear Forum,
I own an 118i F40 and face the following problem. The handbrake button stopped working in releasing the brake (fortunately I can still use the car as it automatically releases the brake when start moving). It is also working with difficulty in a "sticky" way when putting on the brake, showing that it will soon stop working at all. No liquid has been dropped on the button. Trying to clean it with pressurized air, contact cleaner, greasing didn't have an effect. The issue is that BMW does not offer this button as a spare part and asks to replace the whole console (which includes the auto gear level, control buttons, etc) which costs a small fortune.
Has anyone faced this problem? Are there any ideas or after market solutions?
Thank you for your time.
