Manual all the way. I received well over blue book for my 6spd M5 in trade. Dealer was ecstatic to have a manual shift M car. Said with a 6 speed it would be sold in no time.
Not to start an auto v manual debate, but for me, I couldn't imagine an M2 with an auto. |

I actually really liked the VAG dual clutch box, but I was getting kind of bored not having a stick to row and something to do with my left leg. I'm pretty good at rev-matching / blipping myself too, but I know I'm not perfect (and I'm not against having the computer to help if it means less clutch wear). The TTRS gearbox kind of sucks, IMO. It's very notchy which I don't mind, but it occasionally fights to get into gear, and it's known to have garbage syncros (shifting 2-3 too quickly is known to lunch 3rd gear over time, plenty of euro people have had problems with them). Plus, on the TT it really should have a 7th gear, it turns close to 3k in 6th on the highway; great for instant torque/boost, but annoying for drone and MPG. TT's dual-clutch box (which was a euro-only option) is a 7 speed... just like the M2 DCT (which I've heard the same complaint about gearing on the 6MT). the M-DCT apparently behaves even more like a standard transmission when you use the performance / manual mode (cool), plus BMW actually puts + and - in the correct locations on the "stick" (also cool). I only get one car and it is my daily driver; the ability to just stick it in D and go is definitely nice at times, plus DCT is going to make the car faster on a track and not drop out of boost during shifts like an MT can. (I don't know about the M2, but on the TT the revs drop really quickly, and couple that with the crap syncros and you either worry about trashing the box or you live with losing boost on changes.) Also, my wife can't drive stick (I've tried to teach her), and the ability for her to drive it if I'm drunk is kind of nice. Basically, I like both transmissions for different reasons. What it really comes down to for me is, "do I like how the 6MT feels, and if I don't, do I dislike it enough to spend another $3k for DCT"?

FUTURE Ohio resident w/ a 2018 LBB M2. Currently on a tour in Germany with the Air Force. Will take it back to the US Fall 2019 or Fall 2020.
I have a hunch that this car will be very out of place in the Columbus area. Or maybe rare, unique, etc are better words. Regardless, I'll have to adjust my driving habits. Ohio Highway Patrol probably aren't fond of drivers treating I-71 like the autobahn. |

Moved to Toledo area this past July and haven’t seen any other M2s. I have seen a few M3/4 and an M5C.

Remains to be seen where the new job will be (still looking) so that will change my commute a bit. I live like 3 minutes from Microcenter, near Mayfield high school.

Hope anybody in Ohio who has been running a (temporary) front plate solution has removed it by now.

So glad to be removing the front plate! I bought a Carbonio mount prior to knowing I could do without.
