Show us your radar setup!
I've seen a few threads with radar detector and laser jammer setups, but I'd like to see more! Show us your setup. What's the good, the bad, and the ugly pertaining to your choice?

Leaning towards the BEL STI-R Plus then later adding ALP laser jamming. Was going to put the display in the bottom left corner of the windshield....just to the left of the HUD. Also saw somewhere on YT an install where the extra LED indicator was installed behind the hazard light button. Though that was kind of a slick idea...clean and yet still noticeable. Can't decide on placement of control module. Maybe flush mount in "ashtray" and add an on/off button elsewhere since I'd want to flush mount it. |

I'm thinking about going with the Escort visor mount. I hate having the radar detector blocking my view. I have a Passport 9500ix and for my past two BMWs I ran the wire tap smart cord to the dash near the instrument cluster, so I can easily mute the system and get a red flashing light when I'm getting hit.

I keep going back and forth on the 9500ci (or Stir Plus + ALP jammers) - the thing holding me back is the fact that I'm leasing. I want a stealthy install, but it needs to be reversible. Actually, I want to convince myself I can control my right foot, but after the ED experience I realize that is unlikely.

I actually just received my 9500ci yesterday, but I don't yet have my M3 . I plan to post a full review w/ plenty of pics as soon as I receive the car and get the 9500ci installed.
I plan to copy Nick Murray's setup and run the display unit in the top left corner of the windshield so that it catches my peripheral. I'll also run the control module under the vents between the soft touch material and carbon fiber trim - seems to be easy enough to tap the mute button from that location. I'm not a fan of totally concealed units (e.g, display and control modules in the ash tray or shifter area) since you'd have to take your eyes off the road to look at alerts. One thing I'll note is that I was surprised to see how small the display and control modules are compared to what I was anticipating.

My V1 mounted out of the way, above the rearview mirror with remote display/mute button near my left hand. I like this set up because I don't have to reach very far to mute the V1, it is low enough that it is not visible to a trailing car, and it is still in my line of sight. The install is an easy DIY, and the entire setup is completely reversible, and can be taken out in about 2 minutes.

Thought to tell from that pic, but it looks like it's pointing down. If you want it to work its best, it has to point flat.

Escort 9500ix setup
I took my F80 to Best Buy to have them do the Escort SmartCord Direct tap install. The mute button is mounted in the instrument cluster and the 9500ix is tucked in behind the rear view mirror with Escort's big suction cup (for now; looking for non-suction cup mount that allows me to keep the detector out of view). The cable runs up the a pillar and down the mirror housing. Clean install and well worth the $50.

Wah, I'm curious about the path that you routed the cabling for the remote. It looks invisible.

Like all my cars will just have my V1 suction cupped to the window (left of the mirror as high as humanly possible to get it) and wired like Tom@EAS has his wired with the SAAVY unit (post on here somewhere). I have the remote display as well, but actually don't like it - looks out of place to me unless flush mounted somewhere (had it installed in a gague pod in my WRX initially which was sweet, but the sound was still coming out of the main unit so I always reflexively looked at the area where the sound was coming from and it actually slowed me down). To the left of the rearview the main display on the unit is very easily seen. I don't care if people behind me can see it...I think they see me slowing down, see all the red lights in my car then they realize why I'm slowing and that tempers their rage at my brake checking somewhat.
Yes it provides no active jamming of laser, but has best sensitivity to laser of any detector and Ka sensitivity right up there with the Redline (both top Ka performers, mine is programmed with custom sweeps of the Ka band to bump sensitivity a bit)...also putting any detector 1 inch higher on your windshield (but not behind any tinting) effectively increases your sensitivity...
