M2C - Should I swap my Iron brake to CCB?
Hey guys, hope you all are doing well.
I have a bmw m2c with 8k KM, ~5k miles (bought with 2k km couple o months ago), we don't usually put a lot of mileage in Brazil due to the city density. Anyway, a friend of mine proposed me to swap his 27k km CCB for my 8k iron brakes from my m2C, plus an additional cost of ~4k USD. To purchase, he asked me for 8k USD. Should I do it? What are your thoughts on it? The brakes are in decent condition, both of them! I don't track the car, mostly runs on the city of nearby highways and don't expect to put over 15k km on it. Thanks!! |

For your use I don’t think you will find a significant difference in braking by going with the CCBs. I would keep the original brakes.

2. CCB for this car aren't made for the track, they are made for normal/canyon driving. 3. Be willing to put up with squealing from your brakes if you don't use them decently hard every once in a while. 4. The initial rain performance is TERRIBLE, and just OK after the initial use. 5. To do the swap right you'll need to swap the booster as well, and get them coded properly. 6. They should last longer than the car if treated correctly, but they are FRAGILE in certain circumstances. If a rock hits one of the discs it can cause real issues. 7. Don't use any wheel cleaner of any kind, ever. 8. If you have a shop swap your tires, make sure they know that the rotors are $4500 each, so if they tap a wheel on one they will be paying for a new one. 9. No brake dust is fantastic, and they absolutely raise the level of the car, and totally look the business. If I had it to do over again I probably wouldn't swap. Having said that, I love them now that all is said and done, and I got a great deal on them too. Awesome, really appreciate the responses!
I really just use it on weekends and so on, and I tend to force the brakes a lot and sometimes they fatigue, so I was looking for potential solutions. Given this, the poor road conditions and potential damages caused by roads and other debris could be a hell of a problem to deal with... Maybe a more sporty brake disc may solve the problem? What do you guys think? |

Are your current rotors cracking? Are your calipers discolored? Did you buy the car new? 8km isn't much, your brakes should be fine. |

You could try Ferodo 2500 pads and a full flush refill of brake fluid with Motul 660 (do the ISTA cycle to also flush out the ABS system). I run this combo on street and track without fade, perfectly streetable (and fcpEuro will do it w/ lifetime replacement so you only buy once). CCB's would not gain you much (if any) performance, and they are quite fragile compared to iron.

M2C already has outstanding breaks, you'll be hard pressed maxing them out on the streets. That said I still voted yes buy the CCB, I love seeing people blowing cash on these cars.

Remember that he's in Brazil, so just because it's a Competition doesn't mean it came with the 2NH like in the US. If he has the blue brakes and the stock pads are sufficiently glazed he could find their limits on b-roads. It's doubtful, but possible.

Is it wrong to vote YES simply because you like seeing the best, coolest, albeit financially ruining stuff being applied to one of the best BMWs ever made?
