Centre console wireless charging
Hey folks,
Wonder if anyone could take a close up pic or supply rough dimensions of the centre console cubby where wireless charging pad would sit? I’m taking delivery of my new car in a week or so and don’t think it has wireless charging (company car so couldn’t include it) - but looking to buy a wireless charging pad that will be as neat a fit as possible to go in there as an alternative. Any assistance appreciated |

I would suggest to buy angled power cable for this charging pad. Lid won't close with a straight connector sticking up. I usually charge my mobile using USB C port under the arm rest. It's much faster. This short cable on the picture is handy when I place my phone upright in the cupholder. Last edited by hamera; 12-09-2019 at 06:51 AM.. |

Thanks this is quite useful to know. I was hoping to use wireless charging. I bought the cable below last week, this might fit, but they also do the same cable style a bit cheaper.

I THINK (not sure) you need technology pack for that many USB C's don't you? So if the OP isn't getting the charge pad then that would indicate no technology pack therefore fewer USB C's.. Worth double checking.

I don't have any options - just getting a straight up 330e M Sport (to keep it below the £40k tax threshold).
Does this change the situation of what I have and where it is? |

Standard car has an old-style USB near the cupholders and a USB-C under the arm rest. Both can be used for charge and/or media.

I just double checked straight up usb connectors. Depending on the design/built some fit under the lid and some don't. |

I only use the charging pad for short journeys. Anything longer then 20 mins and my iphone x gets really hot and then carplay wont work. The USB C connection in the armrest is much better and charges pretty quickly.

A lot of people mention about it getting too hot but I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max and do regular 2 hour plus journeys and it never gets hot, not even warm.

Do you have it setup for CarPlay in the iDrive? If so, do you use it or are you just using iDrive for music, nav, etc....?

I have Waze running on Alerts only in the background. Doing this gives me audio alerts for cameras and Police whilst using BMW Navigation. Works a treat!

But had a normal XS before and that got very hot. Also the 11pro charges more in the same time.

Just tested it today 2 hour drive Waze running, streaming music from phone went 11% to 37% and it was slightly warm basically like I had been sat on it. So it maybe that it isn’t the charger but the phone it is charging that is causing the issues

Mine gets really warm, border line hot.
Running waze, spotify and charging. iPhone 11 pro max. I think it's all the above plus sending all the data via wifi to the car is quite taxing on the phone. I'm a little concerned the heat isn't doing the battery any favours, as that's one of the best things about the new phone.
