I want the factory alarm.

I have an august 2005 build e90 325i, and I want the factory alarm. However, I also want the welcome lights so that my halos and rear lights turn on whenever I unlock or lock the doors. I currently dont have this feature, and dont have it in my navigation menus either. Is there anyway I can get both at the same time? How can I get the welcome lights, or does it just come with the alarm from the dealer?

Buy the alarm and install it yourself. There are a couple of detailed DIYs.

I don't know about the welcome lights.

Welcome lights with your angles don't come with your car for that year.

How much is the alarm to install myself?

If i install it myself, will all the features work correctly? Can i avoid the dealer altogether?

I think you can buy an alarm for around 300? You can install it since the car is prewired, then head over to the dealer for programming. Not sure if they can fix the welcome light feature though, I'd imagine they can though.

You should have daytime running lights that you can enable and disable through your idrive or turn signal stalk. I have an 05 build e90 330 with the factory alarm and i dont have the welcome lights with my angles. I remember searching if i could and I found it was only possible if you did some re-wiring

Where is the daytime light option through the navigation? I have looked through every menu and can not find them.

Early build E90's did not have all the options within the OBC for DTLs and other now-programmable features. Unfortunately, your dealer will have to program the car.

And how much does that usually cost without warranty? Well I have extended warranty, but I doubt it will be covered.

I am sure you can buy and install an OEM alarm, since the car is pre-wired. Look in the DIY section of the forum - people have installed the alarm, and I seem to recall that the descriptions are quite detailed. Once you install the alarm, the clown's nose will flash, but the full activation has to be done by the dealer. The activation will most likely be not covered by the warranty.

My dealer claimed that the welcome lights are not user programmable, but can be programmed at the dealership. When buying a new car, the CA will fill a little table with the customer where the welcome feature is listed and programmed into the car. Since you have extended warranty, I presume you could negotiate a free programming of the welcome lights on grounds that the feature should have been discussed with you when you purchased the car.

Here's the DIY, thanks to CC 330i. However, as someone already mentioned, the alarm needs to be activated by a dealership after installation.

Tisher has the cheapest parts that I have seen so far so get your alarm there. Call your dealer and see how $$$ they want to install so you can judge the DIY VS stealership labor costs since you have to take it in anyway...you may catch a break if you have other work that needs to be done.

i bought the parts for $250 called the dealer for activation they wanted $150.... and told me that if i let them install it for $250 (first they say 350 for 2.5 hr of work) they can activate it for free only if they do the intall... so at the end i just let them install for me.
