Any of you keep a spare in the trunk?
What a pain in the.... I seem to get a flat at least twice a year I'm considering keeping 1 stock front wheel in the trunk for when this happens. Anyone else do this?

I don't keep it in the trunk but I have a stock front wheel at home that I use as a spare. I figure if I get a flat I'll just have AAA tow me home and put the wheel on or I just have someone take me home to get it. Only time I bring it is if I'm going on a road trip. I had to get a spare because I had a nail in the sidewall a year ago that couldn't be fixed and PS4's were back ordered for months so I had to get a spare in order to get around town until I could source a used tire

Nope. Just a chance you take. One spare in the trunk takes up a ton of space. I don’t put my good wheels on until late in the season when the potholes are fixed and I take them off early which sucks. I always have a cheaper set of winter wheels on standby Bc I’ve been through a couple tires on my 666’s.

I wouldn't have any space left for my dead bookers with a spare wheel in the trunk.

I've considered picking up spare front for road trips but am pretty comfortable around home without one. I think I'm going to get the Makita 18v inflator that works with my other tools instead and carry that along with a tire plug kit. That should be able to get me back on the road and would save a ton of space.

They probably just bought a random wheel for sale, and it happened to be the width of the front.

Yeah I got it because it fits the front and rear whereas a rear would probably drive terribly on the front or just wouldn't fit in general. It works as a full size spare for the front and if I have to put it on the back I just treat it as a donut and don't go over 35-40 mph so I don't damage the diff

Inflator + plug kit in trunk + get somebody to bring you a jack is the best way to do it or bring the jack on road trip IMO.
Pretty much anything can be plugged unless it's in the sidewall or a massive hole |

I have a Dynaplug set to plug a puncture that worked great for the 3 punctures I've picked up over the past several years on all my cars (1 on the BMW which got me 30 miles home then the wheel to the shop). For longer road trips I throw one of these dime tires into the trunk with the jack set, which fits the car nicely and doesn't take up as much space as a full sized front:

No spare in my F83, it's a tiny trunk as is and even a front 265 tire would take up the trunk space and would not be able to put the top down. It's cheape to upgrade the AAA to 200 mile tow coverage than get a spare tire and wheel to lug around.

I keep the donut (in the link above) in the trunk of my F83. It is the same diameter as the fronts but thinner so I can still get some things in the trunk on top of it. I'd still need AAA to bring a Jack but at least it would get me home until I can source a new tire. If I ever get a flat in the rear tires, I would just use the donut to get the car onto a flatbed (smaller diameter than the rears, so not good for extended driving given the LSD) so that the rim of the flat tire doesn't get trashed.

I keep the OEM 437m front wheel in the trunk. I have it ratcheted down so it doesn't move around. Still plenty of space in the trunk.
I do a lot of long-distance driving ~100 miles away from home. The last thing I want is to get a non-repairable flat tire 100 miles away.

I think the spare wheel is the same as the X5 spare wheel I read online and the tire is a also around $65. As the other user posted, it's good to have a full size for long distance driving, I get a used 330 wheel, just for smaller size to get you going and not stranded in the middle of the road especially when your away from home. I think it was Venderstein or something like that made the inflatable spare for Mercedes Benz which was an awesome idea but don't make them anymore. Car manufacturers have become cheap on not including a spare ( bs crap of weight savings). |

My last 3 flats weren't repairable with plugs. 2 side wall punctures and one "cut" on the middle of the tire. This is why I'm thinking about going the spare route. Or maybe I'm fine now and all my flats are behind me.

Unless you can securely lock that thing down I wouldn’t want a heavy weight in the trunk like that incase of an accident. Just get AAA or something. When I ran over a razor in Miami and basically exploded a tire, they were there in less than ten minutes. Got a flatbed and had a new tire installed within two hours.
Of course, in Miami there’s a tire shop every 1/4th of a kilometer lol. |

How about this space saver spare kit from modernspare.com:
https://modernspare.com/product/2014...e-kit-options/ If you don't want the whole kit, you can also just purchase the jack/jack accessories (which is what I did for my X7). For my M3, I just keep an emergency patch kit in the trunk. Their jack, which uses a ratchet design, is much better than the HF scissor jack, and not that expensive.
