"very near by" is debatable. If it takes 20 years for light to get there, I would not call it close

But to achieve that time they have to be traveling at 186,000 miles/second.

ONLY after we get over the theoretical impossibility of us traveling at the speed of light, can we wait 20.3 years to check out the planet.

Perhaps we should send NASA a link to our troll physics thread..

20.3 light years in the universe is like the next town over in our terms. Not that far at all.

20.3 light years is not that far on the cosmic scale. But still too far to even imagine visiting by traveling in a straight line even at the speed of light. If we someday figure out how to warp space time, then who knows what's possible.

I think I remember the guys on The Universe show say something about the impossibility of travel at light speed because the closer you get to light speed, the more energy you will require, thus requiring infinite energy. That's something we unfortunately can't carry with us.

The other thing that would suck is if you take a 40 light year round trip, by the time you get back, everyone you know will be a couple hundred years old (that is dead).

Q
How would an alien race/their 'developments' be different physically even if the atmosphere was almost identical? Lets take it as a possibility that their most significant invention was not the wheel because they have greater mobility than us. What if they were born with wheels or could fly? Would there be so much development on vehicles/roads as we have??

We seem to spend a lot of resources on transportation. I just wonder how much different it would be if it came more naturally to other humanoids.
