Low oil top up.. What are the disadvantages?

I was low on oil and topped it up.

What are the disadvantages of this instead of draining the oil and putting new oil in?

None, unless you were due for an oil change.

maxnix its a temporary solution as I don't have time this week to change it. If its really bad I won't drive my car until I can change it.

Leased - forget about everything just follow BMW guideline to the maintenance

owned - change oil more often depends on the condition of where you drive and how you drive.

My only question is since BMW dealership will always cost people arms and legs when you ask them to do small thing like oil change, can the oil change be performed by other shops?

I was quoted $345+tax(12%) to do an oil change at my own cost on the M3 when I asked to have an extra one between each interval.

How low is your oil mate? I change my oil every 5k so it never has the opportunity to get low. If you're changing it on the weekend I wouldn't bother wasting any oil on a top up in the meantime.

I already topped it up..

It was just above the green bar.. But it gave me the warning light. Then it went to red but came back after a while..
