Question Boost Oscillation Issues

Hey Guys,

It seems lately there has been quite a few threads showing boost oscillation "issues" on both JB3 and Procede cars. And from what I could gather there was no real resolution to the issue. Please see the following threads for more information on this:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232873
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261534
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244107
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286662

Did I miss the solution somewhere?

Thanks,

It seems as though there are just as many people without the boost oscillation though

True, I will say that new maps on Procede Rev.2 have really been much better. I hardly notice it now and have trouble duplicating like in the past.

I've noticed these problems on both 1.22 and 1.3 version of JB3.

very true.

I had it once w/ a beta map from Shiv, noticed it most on a long highway trip when rolling into the gas in 6th gear. uploaded new firmware and maps when I got home and never felt it again.

Correct. Back in May, we isolated the cause of the low RPM boost oscillation and resolved it (with the 5-29 maps and corresponding firmware IIRC). All maps/firmware since then have the fix implemented. If boost is still oscillating, it's for a reason other than the actual mapping.

i'm sure a small boost leak could cause oscillation right?

Yes. Especially if it involves the bypass valve or wastegate line plumbing.

It looks like you thought that it was "fine and normal" at the time so if boost is still oscilating then why should someone assume that it's another reason besides the mapping?

I made a mistake by not looking at the amplitude of the oscillation. There will always be a little oscillation just after spool up. Totally normal on a closed loop system. But if it's 2psi in amplitude and lasts for 2000rpm, then something else is going on. And seeing as edo is throwing a code as well, it's safe to say that it's not in the mapping.

There are many potential causes, some tuning, some hardware, and boost oscillation can mean many things. Boost moving up and down 1-2 psi is definitely not normal and indicates some problem that needs to be addressed... So as always work with your tuner to figure it out.

Yup, been talking to Terry as well. Just wanted to throw this out here b/c it seems like the issue isnt only limited to JB3 cars. Anyone else experiencing the same issues with the latest JB3 or RevII maps?
