My previous X3 had Idrive 6 and so does my F80 M3.

For the most part, I have got used to Idrive 7 but the Address Entry has been a nightmare which is why i use Google maps on Apple carplay 99% of the time now.

In Idrive 6 - Address entry was very efficient, you would first enter State, City, then Street name and number.
In Idrive 7 - there is only Search option where you basically have write in the whole thing starting with house number which creates many more suggestions to actually narrow down on correct address.

Is there a way to input address using Idrive 6 format??

BTW I tried searching but couldn’t find previous thread discussing this issue.

Any reason you just can't ask your car to navigate to the exact address by starting with "Hey BMW..."?

Yes, and you can also chose a name in the MMI instead of Hey BMW, call it anything you want, and then follow the voice setup directions, easy!

I’m just used to inputing the info myself.
So is there no option to do it the old way like Idrive 6?

The search feature is terrible btw.
If i want to use search than Google maps is 100x faster.

Send the address to the car via "My BMW" app on your phone, it's almost as good as Google m

There’s even an option at address input to use voice (mic input).

Correct. That's also how I interact w/Google Maps and Waze on CarPlay when not using BMW Nav.

My older '16 GL450 had the old COMAND system and it was the same way where it was voice activated "step by step" guidance. I'd say this takes up way more time than just naturally speaking your destination in one sentence to any modern navigation app now.

I replaced the GL450 w/a '23 GLS450 and I'm currently beta testing ChatGPT as part of the current MBUX system. I was promised natural responses but I've gotten no better than what you can get w/ChatGPT on the desktop. The database is also limited to data up to 2021 unfortunately!

I almost exclusively use BMW Nav and just have CarPlay in the background for Waze audio alerts. I just select the mic symbol on BMW search screen and say the address destination or things like a store name, pubs name etc.

Have you found the traffic info to be more reliable than Waze/Google Maps?

I've found it's pretty hard to beat WAZE, especially because it's crowd-sourced data that includes average speed of other WAZE users (at least in the States).

I’ve found Google a mess sometimes redirecting me, whilst I’m still attempting its previous redirection, very confusing. It recently messed on a road that was closed, but kept attempting to use the route. I also prefer BMW nav in the HUD.

I get audio alerts via background CarPlay Waze for police, potholes, broken down cars etc, so best of both worlds for me.

When I try this the BMW nav loses the destination and the guidance commands. So all I see is a BMW map with the present position and hear the WAZE turn commands and alerts in the background. How do you achieve BMW nav with WAZE commands over the BMW audio system?

If WAZE is issuing turn commands it sounds like you have active guidance set in WAZE. Maybe you may have competing nav systems.

I only activate alerts in WAZE settings and don't set a WAZE destination for active guidance, hence I don't hear WAZE guidance instructions. Because CarPlay is in the background, I don't see anything from WAZE either.

The BMW iDrive system and BMW Nav are selected in the foreground and used for active guidance. The BMW issues visual and audio guidance, and the only time I know WAZE is there is when I get an audio alert about police, broken down car. speed camera (assuming I'm driving over the limit) etc.

Correct. BMW Nav and Waze cannot both run with active guidance running simultaneously in both systems. As avi66 mentioned, you use the active guidance in the BMW Nav, have Waze open (no active guidance), and you'll get the navigation from BMW and the traffic, speeding, etc. alerts from Waze.
