e30 tune octane requirement

OK guys...

FNG (potentially stupid) question. What octane do tuners assume when they create (OTS) e30/e40/e50 tunes? If I buy e30 out of the blended pump here, the octane is obviously not going to be the same as if I mixed my own using premium (91). It would be nice if you could just buy from the pump, but why do I get the feeling it just won't be that easy??
Any info from anyone smarter that I am would be appreciated..

Thanks..

It's not based on octane. It is based on ethanol content. Just like with their pump gas tunes, it depends on your fuel quality.

Flash it, run logs, and go from there.

You should run a data log regardless with the fuel you are using. I was running an E30 map with a mix of 91 and E85. At an E30 mix, I was getting timing pull so I went up to an E35 mix and timing was good, I am running TU pump so rail pressure was good.

Does this imply that there is no benefit to mixing my own with 91, vs just using the blended fuel (presumably with an 87 base) straight out of the pump?

Thanks..

You need to log to answer your own question. Will the pump E30 be good enough? Maybe. But if you're getting timing pulled, you might need to up the E content. So then there would be a benefit to mixing it yourself. There's no yes or no answer, unfortunately.

It implies that no one can answer that question without you flashing the map and running a log.
