Question BIMMERPOST poll for X3 and X4 owners! Please give us your input.

Question for our X3 owners and enthusiasts!

Now that this G01 X3 forum has seen its activity hit new levels, would you prefer that we maintain the current setup of one single forum section for all G01 X3 discussions, or would you prefer if we created some additional sections for specific topics (i.e. Pricing/Ordering, Wheels/Tires, iDrive/Electronics, Tuning, etc.)? This would provide the advantage of more organization, easier search, and easier to follow certain types of topics.

See our G30 5 Series forum for an example of how this would be organized: https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/index.php

Please vote in the poll above, and thanks for your input!

Jason

Single.

And merge the X3 and X4 forums, there aren’t separate forums for the 3 and 4 series so I don’t see why there is for X3 & X4!?

I prefer the single section for all things G01 related at this point. I don't feel as though there enough traffic to warrant the separate sections like there are for the others.

IMO, it is always better to point to a specific section for specific information. Nothing is more irritating then having to roll through 4 pages of new posts / threads on topics that have existing threads.

How many "NEW X3 BUILD" threads do we need? Wouldn't it be nice if they were all in one thread or a "New Build" section? I think you would get much more input from forum members...especially new ones. This forum is a good example:

https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/

And for what it's worth, as I post this, there are 260 people in the G01 section, 154 in the G20 section and 200 in F30 Post. There's plenty of traffic. Merging the X3 and the X4 (G01 and G02) is also long overdue. G02 owners would benefit greatly and I am always interested in their perspective as well. All IMO of course and many thanks to Jason for allowing us to weigh in.

I don't bother anymore. "Mark This Forum Read" is my friend. I'm sure the administrators will do what they think is best.

I could go either way, but I did vote for subsections to be able to search more easly.

I do vote for FIXING the subscription of threads to give me the X3 link instead of giving me the 2addict.com or f30.bimmerpost.com or other subscription links where I'm not a member!

X3 and X4 sections are now combined! With them now combined, do you prefer having one forum section or multiple sections for specific topic categories? Please vote.

Wow, good job!

Maybe the title and description of this thread should say X3/4 owners now.

I used to use the 3 Series F3x forum, but would always click on the UK link. Once I was there I’d never visit links for other parts of the world, as I already felt segregated so what would be the purpose of me posting on any of them. On this 3rd Gen X3 (and now X4) forum, I enjoy being able to see the threads and interact with our overseas friends all in one place.

I think the same as kozzi. Also you may take into account that the number of people having X3/4 coming to forum would probably increase during the time. Better be ahead of that, before it's too late and the section becomes a big mess (which I btw think already is). I was also thinking about splitting it into US vs World section, because it seems many features/options are different in those markets. And I'm not talking about packages, rather about anti-dazzling lights, factory hitch etc. Or maybe that will be a little too much...? I'm not sure :
Anyway - thanks for letting us express out feelings (although the poll looks like the results of the Brexit referendum so far )

That's a fair point. It is quiet over there for the X4 people.

For me I do quite like the separate forum areas but as above (well it's already down now) like the idea of X3 and X4 together.

The specific areas I like separate are the photos threads, classifieds and regional sections. Maybe the owner base isn't quite yet mature enough for fully regionalises forums but wouldn't hurt the set it up maybe.

Well I only said it because you suggested that a single thread could also do the trick...which it clearly doesn't by your own account.

It would / should if moderators were willing to waste countless hours merging threads but I see your point.

I think that since the X4 is such a low selling vehicle, a separate forum for it wouldn't get many visits at all.

split to different sub forums: engine, suspension, general, wheels/tires, electronics and lighting, etc. it's a giant pain in the ass tracking down older threads having to go pages at a time instead of knowing it'll be a shorter list in a subforum. and like stated previously, the x3 is the largest selling bmw now, we are only going to get more busy.

I think If somehow, the Search function in this forum can be made more user friend, and actually does the proper job of searching And showing all relevant results, then this poll might become somewhat moot... :

I think it would be easier to navigate the forum if there were different topics. I know search is always available, but at least topics make life a little easier. Life also gets harder if older threads are buried 10+ pages deep.

For example...
- Pricing/Ordering
- Electronics/Technical Mods
- Wheels/Body Mods (pictures)
- Engine/Performance Mods

Not sure if it's a coincidence, or if this is real... the Search function had became even worse after the merge of X3 and X4 forums.

I just tried searching for 'floor mat' and only 4 threads showed up in results. Really? :

Please split.

As the community continues to grow, you want to have the infrastructure already in place to grow with it.

Is it, I wasn't aware.

X3 sales now > 3 series and anything else? Crikey.
