Heads up display with polarized sunglasses

We all know that polarized sunglasses make the HUD disappear. But have you noticed that if you turn your head sideways, it comes back at full brightness?

Now I know that there is such thing as horizontal and vertical polarisation, so in theory it should be possible to get a pair of sunglasses that are polarised the ‘other way’ to whatever these ones are and the HUD would not disappear. I.e just flip the lenses 90 degrees.

Anyone got experience of a pair of polarized glasses that don’t make the HUD disappear?

Doubt they do them.
Reason for orientation is because sun is from above!

This. Polarized sunglasses are designed to minimize reflections off water, etc.., and the HUD reflection is polarized in the same way. If you were able to get polarized sunglasses that worked with the HUD, it would be useless for the things (reflections off water, etc.) that you would want polarized sunglasses to block. You might as well have unpolarized sunglasses (and that is what I got).

Once my windshield was replaced, I can see the HUD quite well. Before that, I saw nothing. The glass is genuine OEM.

I'm guessing that the new HUD section of your windshield has a very slight angle difference vs the old one, hence letting some light to pass through your polarized lens. If this is indeed the case, it's probably a combination of 'tolerances' between the windshield spec and the installation spec.

I haven't seen any sunnies with circular polarisation yet...
