Installed SSTT
YEAH BUDDY!
I've been waiting all day for it arrive and i checked the shipping and UPS said it was delivered! I ran home for lunch and I quickly put the car in the garage opened the hood. I wanted to disconnect the battery but then I realized that I let me friend borrow my socket set! So i had to resort to waiting. I locked the doors and left the hood open. The 20 minute wait seemed like forever. My girlfriend just got back from school and was telling me about her day and I don't think I heard a word she said. Matter of fact it all sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher. I was completely focused on the clock! While I was waiting I grabbed the smallest flat head screw driver I could find and tied about two feet of string to it. Knowing how clumsy I am I knew I would drop the screw driver more than once. I actually ended up waiting 30 minutes just to be on the safe side. I tied the string to the shock on the hood and then attempted to unplug the TMAP sensor. This little thing is pretty tough and reading a few posts about people breaking the clip I was trying to be very careful. After a few attempts I examined the clip a little closer and figured out the best way to insert the screw driver under the tab. Gave it a little pull and out it came. I hooked the SSTT up, started the car and pulled it out the garage to let is sit running for a few minutes. Ran back in the house to say goodbye to my girlfriend, still not hearing a word she said, and off I went. Drove around for about 10 minutes to let it get up to operating temp and then slowly gave it more and more gas. First thing I noticed was that I could hear a bit more spool, or could be my imagination. Once I got on some open road I stomped on it and I could feel the extra power on the old butt dyno. The car seemed to react much better when I stepped on the gas. After a few 30 -40 mph pulls I decided to grab a drink at the gas station. Pulled in and wouldn’t you know there is an e46 M3 there. I grab a Rock Star walk back out to the car and the guy driving the M3 is standing there and asks me how I like the car. I told him so far it has not been a disappointment. We bs for a few minutes and I tell him that I just got a tuner put in the car and was wondering if he wouldn’t mind doing a few pulls. He is completely for it. When we leave he is front of me and he takes off and pretty much leaves me. We stop at a light but he is the left lane and I am in the right line behind a car. The light goes green and I switch lanes, pass the car, and get over. Pull up to him at about 40 and we punch it. At first he grabs a little bit of lead (I probably should have been in a different gear), but then he never gains any ground on me. We left off the gas and he is about a half a car length in front of me. We do another roll from about 50 and this time I stay right along side of him. I had to high tail it back to work so I beeped and left! All in all I am definitely impressed. Not sure why I waited this long to buy the SSTT, but I am definitely glad I did. I’m sure there is a little more adaption that needs to take place, but I am very happy. I’m sure by the time the glory of the SSTT runs out Stage 2 will be ready!! Thanks for reading!! |

I think the car has ALOT of adaptation left after your run with the M3. A stock 335 and M3 should be neck and neck but with an SSTT you should have put a few car lengths on the guy. |

Great write up. I love my TT as well. Stand on my car in 2nd gear and watch the traction control light go on every time. My car is a MT. Your car will feel stronger for about the first week or two at least it seemed like it to me.

Down here the traffic is brutal too. This car is my DD and most times on my way to work I am in D mode on my steptronic. No sense switching to DS since there always seems to be a car in front of me. Weekends I can let her go in the right areas of town. If I get an SSTT, I think the thing will be adapting for weeks!

I'm so jealous. I wish UPS would hurry their ass up and deliver mine. After reading the DIY installation guide and examing the sensor, I think the install will be a piece of cake!
