For those who haven't coded, something to think about
I'm posting this in the general section so that it may reach more members than if in the coding section.
I've had my X5 for a little over 2 years and probably had OBD Link/Bimmercode for a year or more. I really enjoy driving my 40i and was reading some of the several threads about 40i vs 50i vs 50M, etc. and thought it might be useful for some drivers (who have never considered coding) to post my recent coding experience. About a month ago, I broke out the OBD and decided to: - Disable the seatbelt alarm: I always use seatbelts, but if I'm going 15 mph in a parking lot, or when I get to my office parking garage, have to unbuckle to swipe the card and then I'm looping around the floors, I'm driving with the alarm bell going off and it makes me crazy. - Disable ASS: I never thought it really bothered me to push the button to disable ASS every time I got in the car, but WOW, it is amazing to get in, start the car, and drive without having to punch ASS at the first stop sign! - Set Adaptive as default driving mode: this is the part that made me think about the 40i/50i discussion. I know adaptive (or Sport) doesn't turn my 40i into a 50i, but it is more fun and I don't need the extra MPG from comfort or Eco. I've really enjoyed having it as the default, even though I was plenty happy with Comfort. Those are the main coding features I wanted to add and they have boosted my driving experience immensely. So, I thought I would "spread the word". I also: changed the instrument panel to Alpina, removed the Alpina logo, changed the iDrive startup logo to M logo, not BMW, mirrors to 50% in reverse, tire temp display on. There are several small changes like that that add to the "fun", but I may change those around, for variety. I hope you enjoyed reading! Last edited by beermato; 06-30-2021 at 11:22 AM.. |

I did almost the same:
Start screen to M Sport ASS off permanently Default to Adaptive Side mirror to 80% in Reverse Video in motion (don't have mirror cast so it doesn't matter anyway) Tire pressure - temp on Made all the dif in the overall experience. Much more relaxed. Which is what an 80k+ car should deliver daily.

That ASS really bothers my passenger. It did bother me at the beginning and I got used to it. But when engine is off and it started again (while still stopped) it's a bit too much. Can I turn off ASS on 21 too? 21 does not have the option to manually turn off anymore. Another question is video in motion. What does that do for you? How do you display video on the screen? Thanks. |

you have a choice between upper tailgate only or both tailgates Quote:
video in motion allows playback of compatible video on the central control display while the vehicle is in motion (default allows playback only when stationary) |

auto start/stop
Hi, can you please tell me, when you disable ASS permanently, LED light on a start button is still working when you press it or the light is permanently off?
Thank you. |

look at my post above. I list the modules in which both the mirror tilt and the TPMS temp coding are found. |

Perhaps the information directly from the Bimmercode app’s website will help clarify what the coding for a 2020 G06 X6 does. You are not shutting ASS off permanently…you are coding its default settings to off. Thus, if you have an ASS button, you can reactivate it at anytime by pressing the button to turn it back on (the light comes back on when you press the button). You also have a 2nd coding option for it to MEMORIZE the last setting. I suggest coding this feature on, too…because you may be in a driving situation where you actually want it back on…and if you stop for a rest or to refuel…you won’t have to turn it back on…it will just remember what the last setting was and that will be the default. If you don’t use this 2nd coding option and you coded ASS to NOT ACTIVE. Every time you start the vehicle…it will default to OFF. The info below is from the website…and you see that the coding selections to make ACTIVE or NOT ACTIVE along with the control module that you’ll be coding to achieve what is desired:

This seems like at good thing to have. I really want to turn that ASS off. Can someone or the OP let me know what's needed? I see Bimmercode and Bimmerlink. Which adapter do you recommend? Thanks.

regarding adapters, you have two schools of thought: wifi vs bluetooth. wifi +/- ethernet adapter is faster though less reliable than bluetooth. i purchased both the bluetooth OBDLink CX (specifically made to work with Bimmercode) as well as the wifi MHD Enet adapters. i was impressed with the speed of the MHD over the CX, but i received feedback that an adverse effect of the wifi adapter's decreased reliability is a lost connection mid-code and you've just bricked your vehicle's ECU! still, users' experiences between the two protocols vary. |

Regarding connection errors, last time I was trying the ambient lighting settings (I ended up not making any changes), I forgot I had a timer set on my iPhone. Of course, the timer went off as I was writing the coding. I rebooted iDrive, restarted car, etc. and when I opened Bimmercode, it showed an error on that module. It took 30 seconds to restore the auto backup, and then I was fine. |

This is the opposite of the way my 2020 X7 works. On my vehicle I have the ASS disabled and coded to remember the last setting which is "ASS Disabled". On my X7 the ASS light is ON when ASS is disabled and OFF when it's enabled.
