330e mileage between fill-ups

It's fairly rare, but I did a fill-up today. 1011 miles since the last one. Used 8.17 gallons.

That is impressive, so how many of those are pure battery miles?

And what is your battery range per charge?

Also, what is your kWh/mile, and $/mile to charge?

Obviously, the vast majority are e-miles due to my 12~15 mile (one-way) commutes. My range on a charge is 20-miles (+/- 1) and my electric rates are 11 cents / kWhr. So, I get 20-miles of e range for ~$1.

Thanks for sharing data points.

So 8 gallons for $32(e.g.) and $50 electricity for 1000 miles, or $0.082 a mile.

The 330i is roughly 30-40 miles city/hwy per gallon, so the efficient price for 330e is around $2.4-$3.2/gallon, which is still cheaper than $4/gallon right now.

I'm not sure about the 330i, but the 330e is 91AKI fuel. Currently, that's $3.65 to 3.85 in my area.

Is it a big savings? Not really, but I'm impressed that 20 miles of e-range satisfies so much of my driving needs. If the e-range was extended to 25 or 30 miles, I doubt I would have used more than a few a gallons in the 1000-miles.

BTW - I've never charged any place but home..

330i is 89AKI min. and 91AKI recommended.

Yeah I did debate 330i vs. 330e while my Model 3 order was a no show(ordered firs week in April, there is still no car after 8+ wks).

The 330i was picked mainly it seems a bit lighter on its feet and corners than 330e, and didn't require habit changes for now.

Obviously the eye popping discounts/rebates/tax credits are sorely missed!

I bought my car in Dec 2020. At that time, the difference in MFG rebates between the 330i and 330e resulted in the same sales price for similarly equipped cars. In fact, that how I did my shopping, spec'd both cars and solicited bids from 8 to 10 dealers. For the dealerships that responded, the sales price was the same.

So, that left the federal (~$5836) and state ($500 in PA) rebates in my pocket.

Sadly, my wife's employer used a brain dead software package for income tax withholding, which drastically underestimated our tax bill.............So, a lot of my PHEV rebate was lost to paying my wife's income taxes....

Yeah in April local 330e's got strong incentives, e.g. the corporate discount is $1500 extra, plus $1166 CA clean fuel reward, and $5836 fed tax credit. The issue was that on the lot 330e's were $47k MSRP and up, while I found a minimally optioned 330i for around $43k MSRP.

So the extra CA + corporate discount still left a delta of $2k that had to be recouped through the fed credit of $5836, so the net savings would be around $4k-ish.

This weekend local dealers have extra $1k savings from BMWNA for test driving PHEVs.

For my use cases, with 1-way 15-50+ miles to destinations not usually equipped to charge, a 330e needs to be in hybrid mode most of the time, for a range o 375-ish miles on 10.6 gallons, with worse mpg than 330i ....

Yes, if your commute is beyond the e-range, the 330i becomes the rational choice.

Garage List
2020 G20 330e  [9.75]
Just done my first fill up, managed 1002km in total range. Not too bad as even with my previous 420i series GC I'd be looking at around 800km on average on a 60L tank.
I reckon I could have gotten more out of it (especially here in the Netherlands where it's pretty much flat and the roads are well maintained), but my last trip involved going across to the U.K. with some pretty big inclines (like the M62 from Hull to Manchester).

350 miles in and i've used 1/8th of a tank. At the going rate and how I drive I could milk 2000-3000 miles on a tank.. I don't have a commute, and 90% of the driving i do is to town and back...

Without the ac on I have managed 30 miles on mine. 24 with the AC on... if only there was a 50 mile range plugin... then i would only need gas in out of town trips :-)

30 miles with 12kWh is respectable, at around 2.5 miles/kWh, or $0.096/mile with local electricity rate.

One friend with a 330e is quite adamant to carry only 1/4 tank to save weight, I think he also gets 25+ miles without AC.

I generally do not floor it... perhaps he just has a lead foot :-)
