I cannot say I've heard of these new N55 motors having issues (not impossible) but I can say that I had a bad waste gate gasket on my 2012 f30 335i. It was a sort of humming sound once the car warmed up. Dealer replaced it in under and hour and it's all they told me. Not sure how common it is.

I went to the dealership to test drive the car again and definitely noticed a bit of rattle during rev at neutral. But it was very faint. Almost unnoticeable unless you specifically focused on the rattle. Didn't notice any when I was driving possibly because of the road noise. The test car had 11000km on it and the engine was broken in long time ago so I'm hoping the rattle doesn't get any worse.
