As I said in an earlier thread the M2 has less room than its bigger siblings so to get that extra safety margin that the manufacturer needs (for snow chains etc) they opted to go down in size. Under no circumstance would BMW release a car that could risk rubbing in any situation that might occur.

Fitting wider tires will be no issue at all, probably not M3/M4 offsets but adding 8-10 mm should be doable when looking at the photos. This is of course just my amateur opinion from looking at way to many Long Beach Blue M2's.
