I can confirm that you CAN'T see the map and track list simultaneously.

Yes, unless the song is the next or previous track, in which case you just use the next/previous buttons on either the headunit or the steering wheel. Pressing and holding either of these buttons RW or FF dynamically.
To switch from iPod playlist to the map, press and hold controller to the RIGHT for a second. To switch back to the iPod list, press and hold the controller DOWN (ie. towards the back of the car).
