I like the shifter better in the M235i, however comparing a car I bought brand new (M235i) to the Z4M with 20k miles isn't too fair. The M235i shifter feels a bit less rubbery, and very direct. I did not dislike the Z4M shifter, but like this one better.
I am still breaking in my new car so I cannot compare that accurately. The suspension in the Z4M was non adjustable (talking struts/shocks here) and with that in mind it seemed lower and also more stiff than the M235i, however again that is still an early impression. I like the M235i better for being more livable for every day, and still being able to dial it in and have the fun.
