One of the most important things to take into consideration is; how did your car get swirls in the first place? Usually, it is improper washing techniques that introduce swirls. (High School or church carwashes, drive-thru car washes, letting the kids do it, even car dealers don’t know how to wash cars.)
If you have swirls or minor scratches, it is more than likely going to be a two-step process for them to remove the swirls. First, using the appropriate polish and pad that will remove the swirls and secondly, using a very fine polish and finishing pad to bring out the true luster of your beautiful coupe.
When you have your paint corrected and pristine, they will ask you on how you want to protect it. Waxes will last 2 - 4months. Sealants can last up to a year. While coatings can go for two years. Wherever you take it to for correction, they can share the benefits and costs of each type of protection and how best to maintain it.
When you have the paint correction done to your coupe, have them go over with you proper washing techniques and how to maintain the finish so that the swirls are not re-introduced. There is only so much paint and clearcoat on your car that you do not want to be doing the paint correction polishing more than once or twice. Also, it can be very expensive to get it done!
I have been teaching my 12 year-old daughter how to properly care for the paint and interior of a vehicle. When the weather turns nicer here in the northwest, I will be putting my 6” random orbital in her hands and letting her learn on my Honda. (Supervised of course.) It is not difficult if you have the proper tools and products. However, it will be a while before I let her try on my roadie though. Perhaps when she gets to high school, she will be able to charge the guys $$ to detail their cars.
