Honda etc. make great front wheel drive cars. Why pay for a BMW that is merely emulating one of theirs?

The front drive based X1 and X2 built on the mini platform actually handle pretty good. They retain some if that BMW handling characteristic just in a different form factor. This is meant to be a mass market practical car more than an enthusiast car. There will be a coupe that remains rear drive on the same platform as the 3 Series with a shorter wheel base.
