In the Netherlands we have on/above our flag a streamer (long orange banner) that has to do with the monarchy and is raised on certain occasions within the royal family (there is a complete legal protocol for that here).
Is there also something like that in the US (maybe on the 4th of july or so) that there is an alteration/addition to the flag to show/honor a special occasion?
I have no idea if this is specific dutch or if other countries have something similar too.
