Without running the numbers to give you advice down to the penny, I'd have to think you'd come pretty close to driving the car for "free" for 12-18 months vs doing the M2 now. By that I mean the car is 6k less to start, and will lose less over the period. Said another way, car is depreciated like you said and there aren't huge deals to be had on the M2 yet. You'd have to make some estimates but let's just say the M3 drops another 5k while you own it which seems reasonable, and in 12 mos you can get an M2 for 2.5k off sticker. You would have paid 200 per month to drive the m3. Compare that to getting the M2 now and I'd have to think you'd drop maybe 10k in depreciation in the first year based on residuals I've seen. Like I said all hypothetical since we are dealing with future values but worth considering. Also gets you closer to LCI M2.
