I have heard quotes for the factory alarm install as high as $1000 when the parts only cost $300 and the labor time is 1.5 hours. I am sure some people will pay it. $500 is more realistic, and any more than $550 installed for the alarm is highway robbery. It's no secret that dealers like to profit from installing options and accessories on a car.
Speaking of, have you gotten your self-installed alarm activated yet?
PS Thanks for the writeup! Almost makes me want to get an alarm even though I don't really think I need one where I live.
