Yup, as you say, those pumps are used on boat engines where access is an issue.
But boat engines usually have much shorter oil change intervals (100 to 150 hours). At an average speed of even 60 mph, that would work out at an oil change every 6,000 to 9,000 miles.
But marine engine usage is very different to car engine usage, I'll accept that.
Regarding using the pump, or using the sump plug : if you buy the 'service kit' there is a sump plug washer included, for you to change. That tells me everything about the 'right' way of doing the job.
