I lived in T.O. for 10 years before moving out to alberta. One thing I don't miss about Ontario is waiting in line at the MTO office trying to do anything with my licence or registration.

Alberta does things a little different. Our registries are small privately run offices that handle most provincal licences and permits. They are all over the place, and you rarely have to wait in line. And if there is a line, just go down the road to the next one. Oh, and many are open evenings and weekends.

as koala said, it is pretty informal here, just ask the agent nicely and they usually will let you look through and select your own plate. Also, they usually get batches of sequential plates, so if you want, you can get sequential plates for all of your vehicles.
