You can transfer your old plate, or you can get a new one. If you use the old one, as long as it is still valid you just pay a transfer fee($25 I think). If you get a new one you just pay the yearly registration fee. There is no charge for a new plate on a new registration. I have a couple of extra plates, but I searched through the plates at the registry and got a XXX-128 plate
