The annual spring drive event that we have all been waiting
for. That’s right; it’s our Annual Spring Drive, Saturday,
May 24th, 2008. Dust off your M3, vintage 2002
or any other form of Bavarian iron and let’s get out on the
kind of roads all that expensive
machinery was designed for.
As promised, this one will be
another tour for lots of grins,
great roads, good food and of
course, outstanding Northern
Colorado Beauty. Plan on spending
the entire day away from
home. Your return to Denver
should be before 5pm, weather
and machinery permitting.
This year, we will be dividing
the drivers into three sections.
There will be a “Performance”
group, an “Enthusiasts” group
and a “Tour” group. The drivers
who wish to join the performance
group will require at least one
year of Auto-X experience or completion of at least one BMW
Drivers School. The Tour group will be drivers who are not
interested in testing the limits of their new “sticky” street rubber,
but who would rather enjoy a pleasant ride with emphasis
on the scenery and food stops. The Enthusiast group is just
everybody else who doesn’t fit into the first two groups. The
groups will have slightly staggered start times in order to make
the experience pleasant for all drivers.
This drive is exactly the same route we have enjoyed on
other Northern Colorado Spring drives but I never get tired of
it. To my knowledge nobody has ever complained about the
open roads or varied and outstanding mountain beauty of
the North Park area. The tour will begin with a trip to Laramie
Wyoming, and continue South to Walden for Lunch and a
Buffet feast at the World Famous River Rock Café in Beautiful
downtown Walden. The River Rock is known for its great
eats and the massive hand-hewn logs in its rustic interior, it’s
a Northern Colorado favorite.
Back on the Road to Rand Colorado
on Highway 125, my personal
favorite Colorado “Sports
Car” road. This little jewel of
asphalt is a Bimmer Driver’s
dream come true. Think long
sweeping turns, high mountain
forest and open meadows with
snow capped peaks highlight
this outstanding mountain route
over Willow Creek Pass. After
coming back down to earth at
Highway 40 we turn back east
and on to Winter Park for a
quick stop at the local Safeway
and some afternoon Ice Cream
treats. I can’t decide if I’m in for
the drive or all the Good Food! Come for both and you will be
impressed by all the above and the wonderful spring scenery
and open roads that have made this ride a club favorite.
So clear the board of “Honey Dews” because you really
don’t want to miss this drive. The drive will start at the New
Co’s BMW Center in Loveland. That’s right off I-25 for all of
you who have not been there yet. The Denver group will be
gathering at the RTD Park and Ride lot on 120th Avenue at
8:45am.
We “lucky” Northern Colorado Homeboys will be
meeting the Denver contingent at 10am, sharp at Co’s. If you
have any questions or would like to volunteer to be the Denver
brigade commander call me at 970-219-9821 or email me
