The F3x and E9x are completely different cars, most significantly in the drivetrain. The N55 engine is more refined than the N54 and even the 1st-gen N55, and (assuming the one you're looking at has it), the 8-Speed auto trans is much better than the GM-sourced 6-speed auto in the E-chassis cars. I've had way less problems with my F30 335i than I did with my E92 335i.
