I would not assumed it's a boost spike. There are stock cars that get the light (and rough running) because of HPFP codes. (Which doesn't mean it will die on you instantly).
Get a simple OBDII reader and post the code here. Also look it up on e90post, there are many codes posted there.
Also try to replicate the problem, with the SSTT in place and then removed.
