It depends on the style of anchor. If it's a toggle style then the piece in the wall will just fall to the floor inside the wall never to be seen again. If it's a split anchor you can probably just pull it out of the wall or tap it in to create the small hollow as mentioned above. The screw-in anchors can sometimes be unscrewed and other times you just tap them in as above.
