Pops and burbles are typically tuned by allowing an intentional lean misfire when letting off the throttle. My guess is, with the 2020 it was tuned to do so, just like the F30 with MPPSK. Looks like they have dialed that back for 2021 for whatever reason. Could be to do with the new M3 coming out.

Not when done safely which I'm sure BMW did. If you reflash with an aggressive pops and bangs map then there could be potential issues down the road.
