I did mine at 1,475 with no problem. I asked the BMW America people about the guidelines and they said that such matters were up to the service people at the dealership. Both the dealership that sold me the car and the one closest to my home said that 1,500 miles was no problem. It is unclear whether there are really any upper limits - I tried to find out but could not.
