Not bad! I've thought of using clear vinyl (like clear bra) as an option. I like your idea better since it can be removed easily. I bet I can find stuff like yours at micro center.

I was thinking of using a larger patch of leather so it covers that whole section of the bolster (I think this will look better than a small patch). Then using some removable glue, so it doesn't damage the leather, to keep it on. Found this glue:
