The 335D will do great at the track. The diesel doesn't generate nearly the same kind of heat as the gasoline engine. Don't forget, BMW has been building turdbo'ed diesel engine for over 20 years. It's one thing they know how to do RIGHT.

At a redline of 5,000 RPM you will never go into limp mode in a diesel. Plus the fuel act as a lubricant AND has a cooling effect on the engine. As for it to be competitive...The relative low RPM coupled with gearing will make it competitive ONLY in endurance racing, where the fuel efficiency of the diesel will result in a fewer pit-stops.
