The M3 will be substantially louder on the road, primarily due to not having any rear subframe bushings at all. Not unbearingly so, but you'll have to turn up the radio some.
Oh, and there's this. Tonight on the way home from work (51 degrees F) I floored it in third because, well, why not? The rear stepped completely sideways. It's a beast. If that would bother you, then definitely stay away from the M3/M4.
