Most likely they need replacing. The sensor is just a wire, when they get worn the wire is “cut” creating an open in the circuit.
You can stick a wire in the vehicle end of the connector to replicate a new sensor and then reset the warning on the dashboard. But this is only temporary fix as the brake warning will come back soon (xxxx miles) after reconnecting the bad sensor.
