It's interesting that Schumacher there only got into the Benneton Jordan team then because the main Belgian driver Bertrand Gachot was arrested and charged for using a banned CS gas canister on a violent taxi driver in central London and there was an outcry when he was jailed for 6 months but released after 2 months after successful appeal.
He stayed at Brixton prison which is two roads away from where I was living at the time.
Thanks!
Love it that you know and remember the back-story as to how Schuey had his first GP start - I believe he qualified very well (P7) but the clutch failed.

Here's a little history of my motorsport attendance....

Riverside International Raceway:

From the late 60's through the mid 70's....I saw SCCA Group 7 Can Am cars with Denny Hulme, Bruce McLaren, Peter Revson; The International Race of Champions, NASCAR cars on the road course, etc.

Ontario Motor Speedway:

----
Attended the inaugural California 500 Indy Car race in 1970; it was "Indy West" meaning it was an exact replica of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway; attended NASCAR on the 2.5 mile oval.

Laguna Seca Raceway:

Early to mid 90's....I was THE most incredible FIM GP bikes in the world....500 cc 2 stroke machines that were ROCKETS....Wayne Rainey on the Marlboro Roberts Yamaha....Mick Doohan on the Rothmans Honda....Kevin Schwantz on the Lucky Strike Suzuki....they would achieve nearly 190 mph on the uphill back-straight before braking for the world famous Corkscrew turn; went to multiple CART Indy Car races here as well
