I know that this can be the case in terms of intellectual property with computer software, but it's not as if there is a EULA (end user license agreement) for the bmw code .... or is there?

In any event, the person who developed the idrive software has nothing to protect. I don't understand how something so simple can be so slow. Why don't they stick a dual core chip in it?
The new BMW ECU is encrypted. It can be 'hacked' using the official BMW software but this is an illegal use of their product.I don't think there is a third party workaround. So the issue is the use of BMW software in an illegal way. You can do anything with the codes on the ECU, its just a question of accessing them
