I cannot say with 100% certainty about the 530e, but the PHEV hybrid system is probably nearly identical to my 2017 X5 40e (and the 330e and 740e). For the X5 40e the 12V batteries are charged off either the high voltage battery or the onboard charger. I've tried putting a CTEK charger on the 12V terminals and it always shows fully charged. The X5 40e (N20 engine) is not part of the service bulletin which automatically replaces the 12V batteries at the 2nd service.
