From experience and what others have said on the BMWs if you wire into a perm live you will get the battery discharge issue.
In a nut shell, if a power feed is been drawn after the car shuts down (so about 15 minutes after you lock the car) the main computer will stay active rather than shutting down. This will then give you the battery discharge message after a day or so if the car has been stood.
Before you ask - I don't know the solution haha. I've never got round to finding the best solution but eventually I think I'd just buy a battery pack.
