Probably because it'd be tough to convince people to buy a BMW 2-seater roadster for $100,000 unless it's something truly special.
The last Z8 had an MSRP of $120,000, answered to the nostalgia for the 507, was equipped with the M5 motor (S62), and extremely limited at 5,703 units.
With the Z4, BMW competes with the likes of the Audi TT, Mercedes-Benz SLC-class, and to an extent, the Porsche Boxster.
If they call it a Z8 and price it as such, it'll be up against a whole 'nother league of players.
