so almost half a year later, after graduating from berkeley, i finally brought the car in back into New Century BMW in SoCal for repair.
Brought it in @ 9am to fix the backlight, SA says the DVD drive will probably have to be replaced. Get a loaner.
4:30 PM: SA calls, says car will be ready in ~30 min.
5:PM: SA calls "umm we ****ed up.... the update failed, will need to replace the CIC and the screen"
