Getting an M is NEVER overkill if you ask me and if you're into real performace. It's a COMPLETELY different car than the 3 series. If you LOVE sports cars and driving (like I do), then it's worth it. If you're looking for something to get you from point A to B in a only fashionable and stylish way, the 3 series will do.
